The National Ultra-high Field NMR Facility for Solids will consist of a 900 MHz NMR spectrometer and is a collaboration between NRC and the academic solid-state NMR researchers in Canada. The Facility, along with NRC’s NMR Centre, is located in the W.G. Schneider Building (M-40) on NRC's Montreal Road Campus in Ottawa.
Funding for the instrument comes from the Canadian Foundation for Innovation (CFI), with contributions from provincial funding agencies, Bruker Biospin and NRC. The spectrometer will be managed by the University of Ottawa through a full-time facilities manager. User policies will be set by a user-based Steering Committee, as advised by an International Advisory Committee.
Part of building M-40 was renovated to house the instrument, which is slated to be delivered in the Spring of 2005, with the installation expected to take a number of months. It will be the only 900 MHz NMR spectrometer in Canada, and the only one in the world dedicated to the study of the solid state.
Dr. Victor Terskikh has been appointed as the new Facility manager, and will take up his position in January, 2005.
